My Chemical Romance’s “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” is a powerful concept album that really put My Chemical Romance on the music radar. The album follows the story of a man who makes deal with the devil to bring his dead lover back to life in exchange for the souls of 1000 evil men, but in the end learns the real price of the decision that he has made. “I’m Not Okay” acts as a type of anthem for every kid who has ever felt out of place or forgotten, which is how My Chemical Romance has obtained such a loyal fan base. The dark lyrics are dressed up with catchy riffs to make a song that is impossible to sing without belting the lyrics. “Helena” is one of my personal favorite My Chemical Romance tracks, and is a song that I hold near and dear to my heart. No matter who I am with or where I am, if Helena comes on, it seems as though me and everyone around me sings along. “The Ghost of You” is a haunting track with a music video that will break your heart. To be completely honest, I think that every track on this record is perfect, and each one plays its part in the story fantastically. This album is not just an album, but rather an experience. This album review is one that is very close to my heart, as My Chemical Romance is my favorite band of all time. The emotion and detail that goes into these songs speaks tons about the unique way in which My Chemical Romance created music. With the tenth anniversary of The Black Parade approaching, this review serves as a great reminder of the music that MCR made and how it affected so many people.
