By now you much have heard of the Florida up and comers Set It Off. If you haven’t then you’re in luck because the fun, catchy lyrics you’re about to listen to will make them you next favorite band!
The boys have flipped the world “Upside Down” with their third studio album, avalible everywhere October 7th. The first track off the record “Something New” is a complete description of what fans are about to hear, a new sound, something common from the Set It Off camp. It seems like every record they head a different direction and experiment with their sound, nothing wrong with that. Side note, this song was co-wrote by All Time Low’s front man Alex Gaskarth, who actually played a huge part in Set It Off’s history, if you don’t know the story, Google it, it’s pretty interesting! Some track that really stand out to me are, “Uncontainable”, “Hypnotized”, and “Never Know”.
“Uncontainable” being the lead single off of Set It Off’s third studio record came out earlier in the year. I couldn’t have picked a better song to lead off the record and to be used as a tool to market the new record while Set It Off was tearing it up on the main stage of this years Warped Tour. The poppy, fun energy from the song brings out the dancing, while the smooth and fired up lyrics can really get a Warped Tour crowd pumped up and moving.
“Hypnotized” is a track that really sticks out to me. It’s classic angsty, angry Set It Off, with a poppy/hip hop beat driving the song from start to finish. One of my favorite things about Set It Off is the emotion that comes from every song. You have some songs like “Never Know” that can be played while cursing with the top down in the summer time, but this song is angry, you can scream they lyrics into your pillow when pissed off over whatever. Anther song proving how strong music can represent a fans emotion.
Slightly mentioning it in the previous paragraph, “Never Know” is a fun, summer loving track that should be blasted with the windows down in route to the beach. Seriously I can see this becoming a fan favorite when it makes its way into the setlist. It’s got inspirational lyrics, catchy tunes, and just fun vibes!
Overall I am pretty impressed with Set It Off being able to experiment with different sounds, bend the genre, and still come out making great music. I can’t wait to see what comes next from the Set it Off crew!
