Music can be enjoyed in many different avenues. Movies, for example, are some of the most prominent means of experiencing multiple mediums of art. As musicians or even just music enthusiasts, we like to watch movies that depict our biggest common interest: music! Here are five fictional movies and documentaries about the trials and tribulations of being a musician.

Begin Again

This quaint film stars Mark Ruffalo, Keira Knightley, and Adam Levine. It centers around an alcoholic music executive (Ruffalo) that wants to help an indie open-mic frequenter (Knightley) record an album. ‘Begin Again’ isn’t especially eventful or dramatic, but it is filled with wonderful music montages and interesting, likable characters.

Almost Famous

‘Almost Famous’ is about a young journalist who writes for Rolling Stone magazine. It takes place during the explosion of rock culture in the 1970s. Although he grows up “protected” from rock music, he finds it through his writing adventures and falls in love with it. This movie won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album in 2001, and two Golden Globes. It was also nominated for four Oscars.

Austin to Boston

This documentary follows four bands, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Staves, Ben Howard, and Bear’s Den, through their trek from Austin’s SXSW Music Festival all the way to Boston over the course of two weeks. The bands travel in VW buses, and the film details both the entertaining and trying experiences that touring musicians have while on the road.

Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child

‘Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child’ features a compilation of footage from Jimi Hendrix’s career from concert videos to interviews. Viewers get an inside look at the inner workings of his musical genius and his life in general. Fans of Hendrix will enjoy learning more about this significant figure in music history, and people unfamiliar with him can discover why he is so highly regarded.

Kurt & Courtney

The highly controversial circumstances surrounding Kurt Cobain of Nirvana’s death are explored in this documentary. Many believe that somehow Courtney Love, his wife, was involved in his death. This film presents a collection of evidence that assesses the validity of all the theories surrounding Cobain’s untimely passing.

A message from the Editor/Founder of Amped Sound, Danielle

Hello everyone! I have an announcement to make that pains me greatly. Amped Sound will be taking a hiatus. Over the last 4 years, we have had a blast providing you content on your favorite bands, and being where you go to get your Warped Tour setlists. I never thought that Amped would grow to what it has, and that wouldn't have happened without the fans and our wonderful staff. This isn't an end for us, just a break to let us all breath and rebuild AS to what we want it to be. Any content that was already scheduled for the rest of the year will be posted as such. Thank you to everyone who has believed in us, and put for the effort to help make Amped Sound what it has become. We will see you soon. Subscribe below to be notified of future updates from us.
